HÀ NỘI — The total number of tourists visiting Hà Nội in the first nine months of 2023 has increased significantly compared to the same period in 2022, according to the Hanoi Department of Tourism.

Specifically, about 18.9 million tourists have been estimated to visit the capital city since the beginning of this year, representing a 36.5 per cent increase compared to the same period of last year.

International tourist arrivals were estimated at 3.2 million, marking a four-fold increase while domestic tourist arrivals were estimated at 15.7 million, a 20.2 per cent increase. The total tourism revenue was estimated at VNĐ69.3 trillion, (US$2.88 billion), up 66.9 per cent year-on-year.

The tourism industry sets the target of receiving over 22 million tourists in Hà Nội this year, including three million international tourists and 19 million domestic tourists. The actual number of international tourists to the capital city in the first nine months of 2023 has already exceeded the annual target of the whole year.

Since early this year, Hà Nội’s tourism industry has experienced an impressive recovery and achieved significant positive results. The city has consistently received high evaluations from international tourism organisations and has been ranked among the most attractive destinations in the world. On September 6, Hà Nội was once again recognised as the leading city destination in Asia in 2023 by 2023 World Travel Awards.

Director of the Department of Tourism Đặng Hương Giang said the sector has launched various types of tourism that align with the strengths of each area, such as sport tourism in outlying district of Sóc Sơn, community-based tourism with a focus on health care in Ba Vì and Sóc Sơn Districts, and hot air balloon tourism in Tây Hồ and Long Biên Districts and Sơn Tây township.

It has improved tourism destination infrastructure, including transport connectivity between tourist destinations and the city’s road network.

It is also diversifying communication methods across digital platforms to attract visitors to the city with the consistent messages “Hanoi – Come to Love” and “Hanoi – A Safe, Friendly, Quality and Attractive Tourism Destination”.
